Holiday greetings
Greetings everyone! I hope everyone’s thanksgiving was fun and without drama! Here at our household it was. It’s that that time of year where we think of the ones we love and what in the heck to give them at Christmas or Chanukah! I just wanted to say Merry Christmas or Happy Chanukah or whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year!
People have been asking about Windows 10 – What have we learned?
Well since I have been running windows 10 on nearly all my computer here I have found it really stable! During my client upgrades I have the upgrades go smooth for the most part. When it goes south is usually when; the system has malware, viruses, and is not working great before the upgrade, using outdated Antivirus, or a hardware issue. However this is normal if you are upgrading a system that is not healthy to start out with.
So brings the question:
Should I upgrade to Windows 10? The short answer, YES! It is a very stable operating system. It’s brings a lot of neat features and for those who are running Windows 8 or 8.1… THE START BUTTON IS BACK!!! Since you get the upgrade for free from Microsoft until June 2016 why not.
Here is a to-do checklist before upgrading to Windows 10.
- BACKUP your system!!! Just in case something goes sideways just have one of your info!
- Ensure all the Windows updates are installed.
- Update your Antivirus and scan your system! (Just to make sure you are clean!)
- Right before starting the upgrade turn off your Antivirus.
- While the computer does the upgrade, DO NOT USE IT! It can and it will take about 45 minutes to an hour and a half! Don’t turn your computer off even if it looks stuck!
Or if you would rather we do it I have an in shop special I will do the backup and upgrade for $80.00.
A word or two on The flashlight threat…
Last week I stumbled upon SOME phone applications flashlight that MAY use your personal information. Some of it is true, but take this information as a warning to look what an app wants for its permissions. Like if it wants your address book, send information, network access, etc. be careful! This goes for not just flashlights, but all programs. The free ones are most likely to want more permissions to send you ad’s. So back to the adage “free is not always free” So with that thought in mind, maybe paying for the good app’s can save your information.
About my goals with Error Out
As most of you know I have been working for myself now working a year and a half, I still can’t believe it either, operating out of my apartment and now a garage. My goals for 2016 is to be able to afford to have a real shop! Either in a store front or a warehouse type of environment with offices. To achieve this goal I need to unfortunately increase my hourly rate. So on January 1 2016 I will charging $80.00/hr. However what I am going to do is for every 5th call I will give a $20.00 discount to the total bill for that call.
I really want to get this business flourishing so I HAVE to hire another tech to ensure that everyone gets the same quality and timely service that you have grown to expect from me!
But in the meantime here is a coupon for $15 off your next call until 12-30-15
Thank You again for your business.
Joe
